Rowan Patrick. Your middle name is after your amazing Godfather Patrick Emery. We chose this name because we think that Uncle Patrick is such a stand-up human being and we hope that you follow in his footsteps with gratitude, selflessness, honor, and commitment to do and be good.
Uncle Patrick has had many jobs that have taken him to challenging places physically and emotionally. He has been part of the Spokane Police Department as a volunteer officer, he has spent years in the ER at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane and is now the Referral Services Manager for Sightlife in Seattle. In his current job at Sightlife he is the voice of comfort and reason for families that have just lost a loved one. He works so hard to help other people get a second chance at life by receiving a gift of a new organ. (I will explain all of this when you get older). All you need to know is that Uncle Patrick is amazing.
Most recently his job has sent him to India to teach the people there how to do their jobs. He has had an awesome and eye opening experience. When he got there he was placed in the hospital he was working in and was told he would be staying there. He described it to me and all I can say is that this hospital is nothing like what you and I know of the hospital. There were people everywhere and the medical files were just in piles on the floors. He had no complaints of staying there. He just thought it was part of the adventure, he was glad to be submersed in the people. It turns out that it was some kind of initiation that his work was putting him through. They were wondering if he could handle the intense situation. They told him a week in that we was actually going to be staying at this very nice hotel. He was transfered to the hotel and felt terrible about it. He couldn't stand that there were poor people dumpster diving and he had slippers and a robe. This is one of the many great things about Patrick. He doesn't feel superior to others.
One day he was on the street having lunch and everyone was just watching him. Most of these people rarely see a white person. A man that spoke some English came up to him and took him to the park where he taught your Uncle to meditate. For the next hour Patrick and this man mediated in a park in India...incredible.
The pictures below can give you an idea of what he is seeing. I hope someday you get the chance or take the chance to see the world. There is so much more than Bozeman Montana and I hope that the world gets to know Rowan Patrick (but please come home often to see your mommy).
Wow Annie. What an amazing experience. Especially that meditation in the park with a stranger! Tell your brother that our prayers are with him. I, too, have the same hope for Micah...that he become a man of adventure...and a man of God...serving everyone he meets along the way. Teaching and being taught. And, yes, coming home often to see mommy. : ) Happy May!
